Troubleshoot Scooter Transmission Noise: How To Spot Worn Gates CVT Belt

Many daily scooter commuters will encounter strange noises from the transmission housing during riding. Most riders cannot distinguish whether the noise comes from clutch parts or the CVT drive belt. Squeaky slipping noise during cold start and acceleration

After long-term parking, aged Gates CVT belts lose partial surface friction. When starting and accelerating, the belt slides slightly on the pulley grooves, producing continuous sharp squeaking sounds. This phenomenon will be slightly relieved after the vehicle heats up for a short distance, which is a typical signal of belt surface abrasion and aging.

Knocking vibration sound when the belt stretches and hits the transmission housing

Long-term frequent acceleration and load will slowly stretch the belt length. The widened gap between the belt and pulley will make the belt swing and hit the inner wall of the transmission housing during operation, forming regular knocking vibration noise accompanied by weak acceleration and increased fuel consumption.

2. Multi-Dimensional Self-Check Skills To Judge Gates CVT Belt Wear & Aging

Visual inspection: check surface cracks, side abrasion and width loss

After opening the transmission outer cover, observe the Gates CVT belt comprehensively.
